Why:

 > Local demand from a variety of agencies.

 > The Go Native project brings together 3 critical elements of the social fabric: schools, family and the community.

When schools, families and communities work together to support learning, students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs.

Successful school-parent-community partnerships improve schools, strengthen families, build community support, and increase student acheivement and success.

Project-based learning is a teaching approach that engages students in sustained, collaborative, real world investigations. Projects are organized around a driving question, and students participate in a variety of tasks that seek to meaningfully address and/or answer this question.

How:

Studies have proven that project-based learning can increase retention of content and improve students' attitudes towards learning.

Project-based learning asserts that students learn best by experiencing and solving real-world problems.

Helps students meet the mandatory Essential Skills component of the Oregon Diploma requirements.
